The National Science Foundation’s Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported STEM and STEM education disciplines who demonstrate the potential to be high achieving scientists and engineers. Selection of fellows is based on intellectual merit and broader impacts.

Fall 2024 Application Deadlines have not yet been announced.

UGA Graduate School Information Sessions and Workshops

This summer, the UGA Graduate School is offering an information session and two NSF GRFP “Boot Camp” workshops to help UGA doctoral students prepare applications for the Fall 2024 NSF GRFP competition. The programs are open to UGA graduate students who will be in their first or second year of their doctoral program in Fall 2024 and who have not applied before as a graduate student. Participants must be eligible to apply in the Fall 2024 application cycle.

 

NSF GRFP Information Session – Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences*

Monday, May 20, 3:00 – 4:00 pm
Location: Zoom webinar

The Graduate School will host an information session on the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP). This session will emphasize NSF-funded fields of study in Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences for incoming and second-year Fall 2024 graduate students. *All NSF-supported STEM disciplines are welcome to attend.

Applying for the NSF GRFP Boot Camp (In-person Workshop)

Monday, June 24-27, 9:00 – 11:00 am
Location: TBD

Day 1– Overview of NSF GRFP, Eligibility, Review Criteria, and Reference letters. HW: Three references.
Day 2 – Personal Statement. HW: Write personal statement.
Day 3 – Graduate Research Statement. HW: Write research statement.
Day 4 – Review. HW: Submit statements.

Only 12 in-person spots are available to the first 12 eligible registrants. Participants should commit to attending every session during the week. You must submit proof of meeting GRFP eligibility with your registration.

Applying for the NSF GRFP Boot Camp (Virtual, Synchronous Workship via Zoom)

Monday, July 22-25, 1:30 – 3:30 pm
Location: Zoom

Day 1– Overview of NSF GRFP, Eligibility, Review Criteria, and Reference letters. HW: Three references.
Day 2 – Personal Statement. HW: Write personal statement.
Day 3 – Graduate Research Statement. HW: Write research statement.
Day 4 – Review. HW: Submit statements.

Only 16 virtual workshop spots are available to the first 16 eligible registrants. Participants should commit to attending every session during the week. You must submit proof of meeting GRFP eligibility with your registration.

Eligible participants will be notified by email.

 

UGA GRFP Applicant Incentive Award:

UGA graduate student GRFP applicants may be eligible for an award of up to $250 reimbursement for research or professional development-related expenses.

To be considered, students must:

  1. Participate in one of the above GRFP Boot Camps;
  2. submit a completed application to NSF GRFP by the deadline; AND
  3.  submit a completed UGA GRFP Applicant Incentive Award form with dossier by the deadline.

Only a limited number will be offered. All above requirements will be verified. The grant must be used between November 2024 and June 2025.
