What Mentoring Has Meant to Me

Tara LambTara Lamb, a staff member and Senior Manager in the UGA Human Resources Learning and Development Team who is utilizing the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) to continue her graduate course work, was excited when she learned that she could participate in the UGA Mentor Program. She is taking classes in the Organization Coaching Certificate Program, and with this being a new field she is breaking her way into, Tara was eager to connect with a UGA graduate who has some experience working in the field.

“When I matched with my mentor, Katy, I was excited to see that she had just recently completed the exact program that I had just started. In addition, she also has a passion for environmental issues like I do and is serving on the board of a local Athens non-profit organization. Just after reading her bio, I had so many questions for her! We are now in the midst of our mentoring relationship, and not only have I been able to talk with her about her career choices and involvement in the community, she has in turn challenged me to really dig deep and consider some interesting questions about my own career and future. Being able to connect with a peer in this manner has brought immense value to not only my professional life but my personal life as well.

I would highly encourage any UGA graduate students, whether you’re a part-time or full-time student or whether you’re in a Certificate, Masters, or PhD program, to consider participating in the UGA Mentor Program. You just never know who you might meet and what value they will bring to your life.
