On February 7, 2024, Graduate Council approved the following updated policy:
No full-time, contract-eligible member of the faculty of the University of Georgia above the rank of instructor may be awarded a doctoral degree earned in their academic unit of employment.
This policy replaces the previous policy, which stated: No member of the faculty of the University of Georgia above the rank of instructor will be awarded a doctoral degree by the University.
