The Graduate School is pleased to announce the launch of the Sylvia Hutchinson Graduate Student Parental Support Fellowship. This fund provides support for a graduate student upon the birth or adoption of a child or during other short-term interruption from an assistantship due to childcare or elder care responsibilities.
“I wanted to make these funds available because parenting is so incredibly expensive now. Childcare costs are insurmountable for students trying to support their educational goals. I don’t want to lose these bright contributors to their fields.” – Dr. Sylvia Hutchinson
“We are so deeply appreciative of Sylvia’s unwavering support for graduate students at UGA, and we know her deep care and concern makes a difference in our students’ lives every day.” – Ron Walcott, Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Dean of the Graduate School
We invite supporters to help grow Dr. Hutchinson’s vision with a contribution to the Graduate Student Parental Support fund for Dawg Day of Giving.
In addition, the Graduate School provides many sources of support to graduate students, including grants to support scholarship and professional development, conference travel, Dissertation Completion Awards, and a range of named scholarships and fellowships, funded by our generous donors. This funding allows students to complete their degrees and make lasting contributions to our community and state.
This academic year, The Graduate School awarded $3 million to graduate students to support their continued research and exemplary work. Our donors make a huge impact when they give to graduate education. Let’s keep up the good work and continue to make a lasting impact in our community and state.
